Merlin, came to GPPR as a stray. We don’t know his history, so we can only guess at some of his behaviors. He is a sweet older guy who wants to please his humans. He loves to go where the humans go and would do best with someone home most of the time. He is happy supervising his humans working on projects, inside or out. Loud noises are not a concern, getting to ride in large equipment is a perk! While working outside, he stays nearby and responds to calling him. Walking off-leash is also good, but he will wander further than he should sometimes. He pulls when walked on a leash. Merlin is good with other dogs of all sizes, gentle with a puppy. He knows basic commands, is house trained, plays fetch. Merlin’s teeth are very worn down, which is not a problem for eating, but something to be aware of.
We are working on some separation anxiety when left in a kennel for longer than a few hours he can be destructive. Counter surfing is reduced now that he is gaining weight, confident the next meal will come as expected. This behavior will resurface if left unkenneled for an extended period of time. We are also working on his extreme focus on lights, he is obsessed with laser light, focuses on any shadows or colors reflected on walls, ceilings, floors. He has some sensitive skin, which we are still watching and treating.
Keep checking in as Merlin progresses! He is being fostered in Nebraska.
