Great Plains Pointer Rescue
about us

Our Mission

To provide rescue and re-homing to displaced German Shorthairs who find themselves in shelter situations. We are not about fast adoptions. We carry high ethics, provide valuable breed education, and want to ensure a successful adoption for everyone.

Great Plains Pointer Rescue was founded in 2008.

Here at Great Plains Pointer Rescue, we take pride in helping German Shorthairs in many situations. All of our dogs receive full vet care in our program from minor to major medical issues. We provide all vetting records to adopters.

Our main goal is to find loving and committed homes for our dogs. We take adoption seriously. Most of the dogs that enter our program have already been abandoned, bounced from home to home, or from different shelters. Our rescue program consists of foster homes where the dogs live indoors with families and receive training, social skills, and love. Adopters are able to ask questions and understand how a dog is in a home environment.

Testimonials

Both Lance and Lucy are Great Plains Pointer rescues. They are great dogs and are everything their foster parents described to us. The whole process -looking at Lance and Lucy's web pages, talking to their foster parents on the phone, the initial visits, the adoption paperwork, etc- was problem free. We've had Lance for 5 years and we still talk about the first time we met him. Thank you for giving us such wonderful additions to our family. We always recommend GPPR to our family and friends and will go through them again when looking for our next pets in the (very distant) future. We will always adopt an older dog!

This organization is fabulous. The love that the administrators, volunteers, and foster families have for this breed is amazing. They are constantly on the look out for GSP's that have been abandoned, abused, neglected, or surrendered. No dog is too old or too young to be taken in by this Rescue. The application form is very thorough, and you know, when you fill it out, that if you are blessed with a dog, it will be in a good home. They are spayed and neutered, and any medical issues are addressed and taken care of by the organization.

My husband and I tell everyone where we got our dogs and highly recommend GPPR to everyone. They are such a loving, caring and hardworking group of people and we appreciate and support them when we can. And we ask many people to support them as well. The GPPR group shares their unconditional love of dogs and life to everyone and we are proud to have been able to get our new family members from them.

I want to thank Great Plains Pointer Rescue and all of their great volunteers for the work they do. We adopted a German Short Hair named Kenzie with their help over three years ago and she has become a valued addition to our family. Not only did they manage to rescue this beautiful dog on the day she was to be destroyed, they did a wonderful job of placing her in a foster home. Before Kenzie was rescued I saw a posting on Facebook about her plight. Her picture cut right to my soul and I knew this was the dog for us. The foster family did a very thorough job of observing Kenzie in her foster surroundings and gave us a good idea of exactly what to expect in terms of behavior from Kenzie. We live a 5 hour drive from where she was being fostered. The foster couple even drove to a point half way between so we could meet Kenzie. She has been a wonderful "find" for us.
I continue to follow GPPR on Facebook and see how many other dogs they are able to help. It is great to see so many happy dogs with their smiling new owners. This organization does wonderful work.
