Hey, there, my name is Fisher and here’s a little bit about me. I was found as a stray wandering the streets so, I’m still getting used to my name and not sure yet when I am being called so will need a family to work with me on this. Thankfully, the kind people at the shelter took me in and made sure I had a safe place to stay, medical care and food to eat until they could find me a great foster family familiar with GSP’s. The shelter believes that I am about 4 years old, and my foster mom and dad do believe I am safely now out of the “velociraptor” stage of life! My foster mom and dad believe my first home was not a good one! Thankfully, I have a second chance here with my awesome foster mom and dad along with two GSP foster siblings learning what it means to be safe, loved and waiting for the perfect furever family! Here’s what I’ve learned so far. I’ve learned I love, love, love other dogs! I love to play fetch and chase with my foster siblings, but I have also learned what it means to be part of a pack and the pecking order in my foster pack (I am NOT the alpha)! So, I will do good with a family that has one or more other dogs. But I also think being the center of the universe and getting ALL the attention being the “Only Dog” wouldn’t be bad either!! I am pretty prey driven in the yard when it comes to bunnies and birds but haven’t had any interaction with cats so not sure how I would handle them.

I am skittish still; I get easily startled by loud noises and I will cower at quick movements. At my previous home I didn’t know when I might get hit! However, my foster mom and dad have been working with me and I am getting more confident everyday so that I am letting more of my personality emerge! I love little kiddos and am pretty good about not jumping on them but will need some consistent positive reinforcement.

I am a runner so having a family that has a big yard with a fence that will allow me to stretch my legs out but not take off is a must! If you don’t have a big backyard but you are part of an active family that can take me running, for long walks or to an off-leash park I will be just as happy! Oh, and did I mention, my foster mom and dad have a doggie door? I’m still figuring this out and am amazed how my foster siblings seem to disappear from inside the house and then reappear like magic outside. I don’t think it will take me long to get it figured out. When it comes to walking on a leash, I am still learning that as well and tend to zig zag and do circles while walking so will need some patience and training so I can get the hang of it.

I don’t really know any commands like sit, lay down or stay but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE treats so, my foster mom and dad have been working with me and I have figured out when I do what they want they give me a treat!! The treats are awesome!! Since I wasn’t quite sure when or how much I was going to get fed, I tend to eat super-fast! My foster mom and dad have this crazy puzzle like thing that I now eat out of so that helps me slow down so I can actually taste my food. But so far, I haven’t shown any food aggression towards my foster siblings.

Potty training well… I’m still working on that! I mean I was an outside dog so, learning the ins and outs of being in the house is still new to me but my foster mom said I’m such a good boy and quick learner that just in the few days I have been here I’m making great progress!! No accidents in the house in two days!!

As for the crate training, I am good in my crate at night if I am in the same room with my humoms! I also like to take naps off and on during the day in my crate since my foster mom works from home. However, I get a little nervous and vocal when I am locked in the crate and my foster family is gone but my foster mom makes sure I can see my foster siblings and she turns the radio on and some lights so that makes me feel better.

All in all, Fisher is a sweet but shy, energetic dog. He will need a family that is patient with him and can work with him on potty training, commands and to not be so anxious about people. But with a loving family who is willing to spend the time with him to work on his behavior and one able to provide lots of love, exercise and consistent training he will make a great addition to a family!
