Hi, Ike here, I am an English Pointer about a year and a half old. If you have followed me through GPPR you know that when I arrived I was a very scared and timid boy. My confidence has grown so much and my foster mom says I am a totally different dog now.
I am very sweet, gentle, loving, and submissive – I respect the boundaries my foster sisters set for me and I have adjusted well to indoor living. I am allowed to freely roam my foster home and I sleep on my own pet bed at night, if my foster mom runs a quick errand she allows me to roam the house with my foster sisters. My foster sisters have taught me a lot and I will require a playful canine companion that could teach me more when I arrive at your home. My foster family also learned that I do not get along well with male dogs, so my new family should have a sister or two for me to live with! My new parents will need to have some patience with me, I am a bit nervous until I settle into a routine – but once I know what is expected of me I do really well.
Sometimes new experiences still scare me a bit, but after a couple exposures I learn to embrace adventures. I really like to chase and wrestle with my foster sisters, my foster mom taught me how to snuggle and now that I understand what that is all about I LOVE it. I soak up affection and love to be brushed; I am not as fond of a bath or getting my toe nails trimmed. I ride well in the car, but I am a bit skeptical getting into it (I am getting much better though).
I listen really well when you call me to come and I stay in the yard and do not roam. I am learning to sit (have that almost perfected) and I’ve learned to walk really well on the leash. I go into my crate nicely, but I prefer to be with my family when I can. I am very quiet and I am housebroken, recently I’ve learned to give vocal queues that I need to go outside.
Before entering GPPR I was surrendered for being gun shy, I was very scared in the shelter and lost quite a bit of weight but I am now eating really well and beginning to build back up. I am living with a foster family in MN.
