Gary isn't looking for anything too fancy, just a place for him to nap, bird watch and chew the occasional rawhide. Gary has overcome huge obstacles since his arrival at GPPR. When Gary initially came to us he required quite a bit of love and care to heal from wounds he received from a past owner as well as fight off heartworms. Gary's wounds and spirit have healed wonderfully and as of October he is now heart worm negative. He is an extremely sweet boy who aims to please, and listens well on and off leash. It still takes Gary a while to open up and be comfortable around new people but given time he loves everybody. He is very friendly, but is not a "hugger" and would prefer a pat on the head or belly rub to a hug around the neck; for this reason a home with older children or no children would be the best fit for Gary. Gary's favorite past times are going on walks and riding in the car. He also enjoys playing fetch as well as chasing bunnies and squirrels. While Gary does enjoy his exercise he is a lower energy dog who would be just as happy not to walk a mile in the rain or snow. He has great house manners, kennels wonderfully and knows all of his basic commands. While Gary at one time was hunt trained he is now retired. Gary is a sweet loving boy who would make a great companion. Please consider adding Gary to your family!
