Gordon has been called “Gordy” by his foster mom, because “Gordon” sounded too much like his foster brother’s name.  He’s a 47# pocket pointer, liver and white, with a heart-shaped patch on his right side.  The vets are unsure of his age, but his foster mom thinks he’s only 3 or 4 because he has no plaque on his teeth. 

Gordy is an absolute sweetheart who wants to be as close to his Person as possible.  Definitely a snuggler.

Gordy’s favorite things include staring deeply into your eyes, asking if he might please sit on your lap, sleeping deeply once he has made it to your lap, and then never leaving.  Gordy has discovered that dog beds, people beds, couches, chairs, and all manner of squishy things are Delightful.  However, ranking under the category of Absolutely Wondrous is getting a blanket pulled over his head while he’s sleeping next to his Person.

Other favorite things include racing his foster sister through the fenced yard, playing with toys, and blinking sleepily in the sunshine.  Gordy is fascinated when the TV is on, or when his foster mom’s phone is making noise.

He was recently neutered (May 27 2022) but he has never shown any alpha behavior with his foster siblings (one male and 2 female GSPs).  In fact, he is quite submissive, even to the foster mom’s cats (curious, but backs away as soon as the cat warns him).

Gordy is very excited about food, so it’s important to give him his bowl First.  He won’t try to steal anyone else’s food after he’s finished with his, but he does need to be First in line for breakfast and dinner.  He never jumps up except when people are carrying his food bowl…and sometimes if the people are carrying their own food.  Gordy is exceedingly polite with treats, even Stinky Treats, and takes them gently with his lips.

Gordy has met many people and has never shown any aggression, not even barking.  The only time he barks is during playtime, or occasionally if he thinks his dinner is late.

Gordy did not seem to know any commands at all when he came to his foster home.  He’s learned No, and the ah-ah sound, but doesn’t always want to obey – a touch willful but still never aggressive.  He was ready to work on Sit when the foster mom broke her ankle.  His foster siblings taught him to counter surf near the Treats container – sorry about that.

He was good with the kennel the first time he went in but was not the second time, when he bounced the kennel across the room and knocked it sideways in a period of 3 hours.  We haven’t tried the kennel again because he looked very scared about it.

Gordy is good on a leash and doesn’t pull, but he is fearful at a new place (the vet) and needs to be encouraged.  He is a GREAT passenger in the car.  Doesn’t move around and doesn’t whine.  As soon as it begins to get dark out, he wants to be in the house and will curl up in a ball and go to sleep.  He is very close to potty trained, with just some pee accidents – but with the doggie door open to the fenced yard at all times, he seems to have figured it out by following his foster siblings.

According to his records, Gordy was rescued as a very skinny stray in mid-March.  This may be why he wants to be in the house as soon as it gets dark, and why he’s always watching his Person.  He does have some skin irritation on his belly that is being treated with an anti-itch shampoo.
